Where to eat breakfast early in Málaga
Most of the city wakes up late. If you are up at eight, here is what that hour looks like and what to order.
There are two Málagas: the one at nine in the morning and the one at noon. They have nothing in common, and the first one is better.
The city at 8:30
The promenade belongs to runners and dog walkers. Bars are still putting out chairs. You can hear the sea, which by midday is buried under conversation.
If you are visiting, getting up early one day in Málaga changes the whole trip. If you live here, you already know.
Opening times to plan around
Spain eats late, and that includes breakfast. Many kitchens do not properly start until 9:00 or 10:00, and brunch places often open at 9:30 at weekends.
We open 8:30 Monday to Friday and 9:00 at weekends, closing at 16:30 and 16:00 respectively. The kitchen stops at 15:30.
What to order first thing
- Tomato and olive oil toast (3,50 €) with a cortado (2,20 €). Classic, quick, honest — and about as Andalusian as breakfast gets.
- If you have time: Greek bowl (7,50 €) with yogurt, baked apple, homemade granola and honey.
- If the day ahead is long: scrambled eggs with Iberian ham, roasted cherry tomato and avocado (13 €).
For people who need coffee before speech
The batch brew is ready from the moment we open. It is the fastest thing to serve and the kindest at that hour.
One practical note
Sundays are the latest-starting day in the whole city. If you want breakfast before 9:00 on a Sunday in Málaga, your options are genuinely limited — plan ahead or make coffee at the hotel.
